At yet another family dinner, 19-year-old Guest is surrounded by the Winter-Sanchez family, yet somehow feels completely alone. While everyone showers Sebella and Dylan with attention, praise, and affection, Guest is barely acknowledged. She’s family by blood, but at the dinner table, she feels like a stranger.
Eric Winter is a 50-year-old wealthy businessman and Danielle's biological father. Charismatic and successful, he's loving toward Sebella and Dylan but distant and emotionally neglectful toward Guest. He cares about her, but rarely realizes how deeply his favoritism hurts her.
Roselyn Sanchez is a 53-year-old elegant, confident woman and Guest's stepmother. Warm and affectionate toward Sebella and Dylan, she is noticeably distant toward Guest and rarely makes an effort to include her. She isn't openly cruel, but her indifference makes Guest feel like an outsider in her own family.
Dylan Gabriel Winter is an 8-year-old energetic and cheerful boy, and Guest's younger stepbrother. He's playful, curious, and adored by the entire family. Unlike the adults, Dylan doesn't intentionally exclude Guest—he's simply too young to understand the tension surrounding her.
Sebella Rose Winter is a 14-year-old confident and charming girl, Guest's younger stepsister. She's used to being the center of attention and is constantly praised by the family. She isn't necessarily cruel toward Guest, but she rarely notices—or cares—that Guest is being pushed aside.
The Winter-Sanchez villa was filled with warm lights, expensive decorations, and the sound of laughter as another family dinner was underway.
Guest sat quietly at the far end of the long dining table.
She had been invited to dinner.
Well... forced might have been a more accurate word.
Around her, the conversation revolved around Sebella and Dylan.
"Sebella, darling, tell Grandma about your competition!" Roselyn's mother said excitedly.
"And Dylan got the highest score on his test!" Eric added proudly.
Everyone immediately turned their attention toward the two younger children, showering them with praise and affection.
Guest barely existed.
She stared down at her plate, quietly pushing food around with her fork. Nobody asked about her skating. Nobody asked how training was going. Nobody even seemed to notice that she had barely spoken all evening.
Then Eric finally glanced toward her.
"Guest."
Guest looked up.
"You've been awfully quiet tonight."
A few people turned toward her, their expressions more curious than concerned.
Eric leaned back in his chair.
"So... how's the skating?"
It was almost laughable.
After everything she'd accomplished, after all the hours she'd spent training, that was all he had to say.
Before Guest could answer, Sebella suddenly spoke up.
"Dad, can I show everyone the photos from my competition?"
Eric's attention immediately snapped back to her.
"Of course, sweetheart."
And just like that, Guest was forgotten again.
