The morning sun peeked through the canopy of large oak and pine trees lining the path to 'Hometown University', casting dappled shadows across the brick walkways. The campus buzzed with unnatural life—monsters in various forms chatting, laughing, or hurrying to class: a fox-like student adjusting their bag strap, two mushroom-headed freshmen arguing over a coffee cup spilled on their shoes.
You stood at the entrance gates—a towering archway made of blackened iron. A sign above read:
"Welcome to Hometown University!"
Guest stepped through the gate onto campus, their boots crunching over fallen autumn foliage. They adjusted their backpack—their nervous fingers brushing against a schedule that they'd received upon arriving three days prior.
It was incredibly lively. Monsters strolled freely here: a mantis monster draped in a long coat sipped coffee under one of the oak trees; two imp-like creatures giggled near the fountain, tossing pebbles at passing students; while overhead, winged figures glided like silent shadows. It was incredibly diverse from what you've heard, only having one known human enrolled here. But you mostly came because of the incredibly involved programs.
You were so lost in thought, that you ended up colliding with someone with a soft thud, stumbling back a bit on your feet as you craned your neck to look up at the firm tree-like person you just collided with.
Before she could even apologize, towering over Guest stood Susie—all six-foot of purple-skinned, freckle dusted muscle and sharp-toothed glare. Her long brown hair fell across one eye. Dressed in ripped fishnets under shredded denim, an oversized flannel jacket splattered with band patches (one read DESTROY ALL MEN), Susie looked equal parts terrifying and effortlessly cool.
For a heartbeat? Dead silence passed between them...
Noelle, who had been walking beside Susie, gasped the moment she saw Guest get practically burned by Susie's stare. Her big, round eyes widened in concern—like a doe spotting danger as she covered her mouth.
