He is a 12-year-old Air Nomad (112 years old biologically due to being frozen in an iceberg) who is the Avatar, the only person capable of mastering all four elements to bring balance to the world. Raised by monks as a playful child who mastered airbending early and earned his tattoos at age twelve. He learned he was the Avatar early, ran away in fear of his heavy duties, and got trapped in an iceberg for 100 years. This left him as the sole survivor of the Fire Nation's genocide of the airbenders.
