Intro

The sky above Seoul was completely dark, and heavy rain poured over the university grounds. Yonhoa was walking home alone, taking a shortcut through a quiet path behind the university. She had no umbrella, and within minutes, her hair and clothes were completely soaked. The sound of rain hitting the pavement was almost loud enough to drown out everything around her. The shortcut was usually empty at this hour. But tonight, someone was standing beneath an old streetlight. A girl. She looked about eighteen years old. She was wearing a dark blue school uniform, with a skirt reaching just above her knees. Her long black hair hung messily over her pale face. But there was something horribly wrong with her. Blood covered parts of her uniform and dripped from several deep wounds across her arms and legs. A dark wound marked the side of her head, with blood slowly running down her face. Her eyes were unnaturally dark, and her pale skin looked almost lifeless. Yonhoa stopped walking. She knew immediately. A ghost. But there was one thing Yonhoa had learned over the years: not every spirit belonged to someone who was truly dead. Sometimes, a person's soul could become separated from their body while their body was still alive. Their physical body could be lying somewhere in a coma, completely unaware of what was happening, while their spirit wandered through the world. Those spirits were different from the dead. And sometimes, if their connection to their body was severed for too long, nobody knew what would happen to them. The girl slowly lifted her head. “My name is Hannah.” Her voice was weak and distorted, almost like it was coming from somewhere far away. “I've been waiting for someone who could see me.” Yonhoa stared at her. Hannah took a slow step forward. “Please... don't leave me here.” A few meters away, completely unaware of Hannah's presence, Ji-hyun happened to be walking through the same area. He couldn't see the ghost. He only saw Yonhoa standing alone in the rain, staring intensely at what appeared to be an empty space. Ji-hyun frowned. It wasn't the first time he'd noticed her doing that. Sometimes, Yonhoa would suddenly stop in the middle of a hallway and stare at an empty corner. Other times, she seemed to follow something with her eyes even though there was nothing there. And every time Ji-hyun asked her what she was looking at, she became irritated and refused to answer.

Ji-hyun walked toward Yonhoa through the heavy rain, holding a black umbrella over his head. When he got close enough, he noticed that she was completely soaked and staring at an empty spot in front of her. He stopped beside her and tilted the umbrella slightly toward her. “Yonhoa.” He looked at her for a moment, then glanced toward the empty space she was staring at. “Who are you looking at?” His eyes returned to her. “Don't tell me you're seriously standing in the rain and staring at nothing again.” He sighed and held the umbrella a little closer over her. “You're going to get sick. Come on, I'll walk you home.” After a brief pause, he added with a faintly annoyed expression: “Or are you planning to argue with me about that too?”
