A Highly Detailed Fantasy World, advanced sourcebook - 49 entries and worldbuilding
The World of Aether

Aether is a vast high-fantasy world where magic is woven into nearly every aspect of existence. Mana flows naturally throughout the world and within almost every living being, shaping civilization, warfare, education, technology, medicine, culture, and everyday life. Nearly everyone possesses some connection to mana, although only gifted or highly trained individuals ever reach extraordinary levels of magical power.
Aether is divided among powerful kingdoms, smaller nations, independent cities, ancient settlements, tribes, clans, and enormous stretches of untamed wilderness. Humans, elves, dwarves, beastfolk, sphinxes, dragonkin, fairies, giants, merfolk, and countless other peoples share the world. No single kingdom or race controls Aether, and civilization extends far beyond its four greatest powers.
The Great Kingdoms
Aesteria — The Arcane Kingdom
Capital: Aurelith

Aesteria is widely regarded as the most powerful kingdom in Aether. Its dominance comes from its exceptional military, magical advancement, wealth, education, diplomacy, and technological development. Despite its influence, Aesteria does not rule the world and treats the other great kingdoms as independent sovereign powers.
Its magnificent capital, Aurelith, is one of the greatest cities in Aether and an international center of magical research, education, diplomacy, commerce, and culture. Grand academies, royal institutions, Guild facilities, research centers, markets, noble estates, and foreign embassies attract visitors from across the world.
Aesteria’s greatest warriors are the Arcane Knights, elite combatants who combine exceptional martial skill with advanced magic. At their head stand the Arcane Knight Commanders, extraordinarily powerful individuals traditionally considered among the greatest warriors alive.
⸻
Drakenwar — The Warrior Kingdom
Capital: Varkhalla

Drakenwar is one of Aether’s greatest military powers and a kingdom whose culture places tremendous value on courage, discipline, endurance, honor, and martial excellence. Strength commands respect within Drakenwar, although true warriors are expected to possess discipline rather than simply overwhelming power.
Its capital, Varkhalla, is a monumental fortified city surrounded by rugged mountains and enormous defensive structures. Military academies, arenas, fortresses, and training grounds exist throughout the city alongside ordinary neighborhoods, markets, harbors, and civilian districts.
Drakenwar’s elite warriors are the Warborn, exceptional combatants selected for their martial ability and discipline. Their strongest leaders are the Warborn Champions, renowned warriors entrusted with commanding elite forces and confronting the kingdom’s greatest threats.
⸻
Elviana — The Elven Realm
Capital: Sylvaris

Elviana is the greatest elven kingdom in Aether and one of the oldest surviving civilizations in the known world. Its society is renowned for ancient traditions, magical scholarship, artistry, knowledge, and its unusually close relationship with the natural world.
Its capital, Sylvaris, is an extraordinary city built in harmony with an enormous ancient forest. Towers, homes, bridges, gardens, waterways, and magical structures exist among colossal trees rather than replacing them. Sylvaris represents the elven philosophy that civilization and nature need not exist in opposition.
Elviana’s greatest protectors are the Verdant Sentinels, elite warriors, archers, and mages trained in highly precise forms of combat. Their commanders are known as Sentinel Wardens, some of whom possess centuries of accumulated experience.
⸻
Kivogue — The Crown Kingdom
Capital: Valenne

Kivogue is a prosperous human kingdom known for commerce, diplomacy, craftsmanship, political influence, and a highly professional military. Though it cannot match Aesteria’s overall power, Kivogue remains one of the most influential nations in Aether and maintains extensive relationships with foreign powers.
Its capital, Valenne, is one of the world’s greatest centers of international trade. Ships, merchants, travelers, craftsmen, nobles, and diplomats from distant lands constantly pass through its streets and harbors. Foreign embassies and enormous marketplaces have made Valenne one of Aether’s most culturally diverse cities.
Kivogue’s elite military order is the Crown Vanguard, composed of exceptional knights, mages, scouts, and specialists. The order is commanded by Vanguard Marshals, powerful individuals entrusted with the kingdom’s most important military operations.
⸻
Beyond the Great Kingdoms
The four great kingdoms represent only a portion of civilization within Aether. Smaller kingdoms and republics exist alongside independent cities, dwarven strongholds, beastfolk territories, elven communities, sphinx settlements, dragonkin enclaves, coastal societies, nomadic peoples, and isolated civilizations.
Some territories maintain alliances with the great kingdoms while others remain fiercely independent. Borders and relationships have changed throughout history, creating old rivalries, alliances, trade agreements, and cultural connections between distant peoples.
Enormous regions also remain outside any government’s authority. Ancient forests, mountain ranges, plains, islands, deserts, oceans, valleys, and other wildlands separate civilizations and provide enormous areas for exploration.
Mana
Mana is the supernatural energy flowing throughout Aether and nearly every living being. Each individual possesses their own natural mana capacity and affinities, creating enormous differences in magical potential.
Using magic consumes mana. Rest gradually restores these reserves, while excessive consumption causes exhaustion and eventually prevents further spellcasting. Training cannot simply give everyone limitless mana, but it can dramatically improve control, efficiency, precision, and the amount of power someone can effectively use.
Certain locations, bloodlines, creatures, and magical objects contain unusually dense concentrations of mana. Because of this, magical environments can behave very differently from ordinary regions.
Magic
Magic is the manipulation of mana to produce supernatural effects. Although countless individual spells exist, conventional magic is broadly organized into four primary branches.
Elemental Magic manipulates natural forces such as fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, and ice. Restoration Magic encompasses healing, purification, protection, and physical enhancement. Arcane Magic manipulates raw mana through barriers, constructs, enchantments, projectiles, spatial techniques, and numerous advanced applications. Conjuration Magic concerns summoning, familiars, binding, and magically created entities.
These branches contain countless disciplines and variations rather than rigid lists of spells.
Rare individuals may instead possess Unique Magic. These unusual abilities do not properly fit established magical classifications and can function according to entirely different rules. Unique Magic varies enormously between individuals and is often difficult to predict or counter without prior knowledge.
The Guild
The Guild is an international organization operating across national borders and independently of any single kingdom. Guild branches can be found throughout major cities and numerous smaller settlements.
The Guild organizes adventurers, distributes quests, investigates dangerous creatures, records threats, coordinates exploration, and handles problems that do not warrant deploying an entire national military.
Its international status allows adventurers to travel and operate throughout much of Aether without formally serving any kingdom.
Adventurers
Adventurers are independent warriors, mages, healers, hunters, explorers, scouts, and specialists who commonly accept work through the Guild.
Their abilities vary enormously. Beginners might handle simple escorts or minor creatures, while experienced adventurers explore dangerous ruins and confront serious magical threats. The greatest adventurers can become famous across entire nations and possess abilities far beyond ordinary soldiers.
Adventurers are not a unified military. They possess their own ambitions, loyalties, personalities, and reasons for traveling the world.
Gods
Gods are immensely powerful divine beings whose existence is accepted throughout much of Aether. Different civilizations worship different gods and maintain their own religions, traditions, and interpretations of divinity.
Their true nature remains poorly understood by mortals. Genuine divine appearances or direct intervention are extraordinarily rare, meaning even scholars disagree about exactly how the gods interact with the mortal world.
Demons
Demons are not native to Aether. They originate from another world and cannot simply appear naturally within Aether.
A demon must either be deliberately summoned or enter through a dimensional rift connecting its world to Aether. Consequently, discovering an unexplained demon can indicate a much larger problem nearby.
Demonic power follows a loose hierarchy consisting of Lesser Demons, Greater Demons, Demon Lords, Demon Archlords, and Demon Kings. The appearance of stronger demons can become a national emergency, while a sufficiently dangerous dimensional rift could threaten multiple kingdoms.
The Wider World
Aether extends far beyond its capitals and political centers. Vast wilderness regions contain ancient ruins, forgotten settlements, magical environments, hidden civilizations, and places that have never been properly explored.
Magic and technology frequently overlap within developed civilizations. Enchanted equipment, magical lighting, specialized weapons, communication methods, transportation, and countless practical devices have emerged from centuries of magical research. Their availability varies greatly depending on the wealth and advancement of each region.
