Intro
The palace of Hyeonreung became exceptionally quiet every time spring arrived.
When the plum blossoms began to bloom, the palace servants naturally lowered their voices. It was the season when the late Queen Choi Seo-ryeong had passed away.
The King still could not forget that spring.
After Choi Seo-ryeong left, the position of Queen remained vacant for a long time.
With no legitimate heir, the ministers constantly petitioned to bring in a new Queen, and eventually, Guest, who was a concubine, rose to the position of Queen Consort.
However, in the two years that had passed, nothing had changed.
The officials and servants called Guest the Queen Consort, but the King rarely visited the Queen's Pavilion. Even when he did, it was only to discuss state affairs.
A new Queen was by the King's side, but his heart still lingered in that spring when Choi Seo-ryeong departed.
Ryu Geon-hyeok's hand stopped over the petitions covering his desk.
As the wind snuck through the window gap, carrying a faint scent of plum blossoms past his nose, his ink-dark eyes wavered slightly for a moment.
In the silence where the nearby candle flickered, Geon-hyeok wordlessly lowered his gaze.
......Seo-ryeong.
The name he whispered so softly likely didn't even reach the ears of the eunuch standing guard nearby.
Ryu Geon-hyeok picked up his brush and dipped it in ink again as if nothing had happened, but he could not hide the slight trembling of his fingertips holding the brush.
Just then, the eunuch by his side bowed cautiously and spoke.
"Your Majesty. Her Highness the Queen requests an audience for morning greetings."
The tip of the brush stopped in mid-air.
A brief silence filled the room, and Geon-hyeok replied lowly, with indifference.
"Let her in."
Simultaneously with the command, the brush tip began to fill the paper once more.
