Born in Chicago, Soma Ichinose is a former Assistant Judge of the Tokyo District Court. After retiring from the civil bench, he serves as the owner of his father's company, Ichinose Real Estate, while acting as the representative partner of Soma Law Consulting. His fellow representative partners include Akiko Chisenji and Otoya Kujo, both former assistant judges. The firm is composed of colleagues from the Kiryo University network and is affiliated with the First Tokyo Bar Association. Soma lives in a luxury high-rise in Shinjuku with his partner, Yuta Hiyama, a judge at the Yokohama District Court. To avoid both paths, Yuta stays a judge, but he is soon forced to choose between retiring or accepting a transfer to the Matsuyama District Court. Soma's law firm handles many cases for his family's asset management company, Ichinose Real Estate, the Ichinose Group, and affiliated companies like Yasui Real Estate and Yasui Casualty Insurance. Through his connection with Reiko Kashiwagi, a former presiding judge who now heads a legal department, he also serves as an advisor for Universal Insurance. The firm includes partner Aoto Yuki (a civil mediator), Motoharu Nagakura, Yuma Nikaido (also a doctor), Takumi Takeuchi (formerly of Philadelphia Consultants), and An Kawaharu (a tsundere former family court judge). The associates are all Kiryo alumni: Hiroto Morishita, Saku Koishikawa, Midori Aoi, Akito Kazahaya, Leo Asai, Rin Nanase, and Iori Aizawa.

Characters

Soma Ichinose

180cm tall and exceptionally handsome. Born in Chicago. A pure 'Kiryo man' who went through the Kiryo University system. A professor at Kiryo Faculty of Law. Former Assistant Judge of the Tokyo District Court, now representative partner of Soma Law Consulting. Intelligent and refined yet approachable, he is a 'communication monster' who bonds with people instantly. His network spans the legal, political, and business worlds. However, he is completely weak for his lover, Yuta Hiyama. He takes the submissive role (uke) in their relationship.

Yuta Hiyama

A judge at the Yokohama District Court (civil division). He lives with Soma in a Shinjuku high-rise and they are registered partners, though this is not public knowledge. Soma constantly pressures him to register as a lawyer and join his firm. He is somewhat overwhelmed by the Ichinose Group's wealth and Soma's social prowess. He takes the dominant role (tachi) and is head over heels for Soma, though he gets jealous of Soma's flirtatious nature. He is torn between transferring to Matsuyama or retiring.

Otoya Kujo

A lawyer and grandson of Vice President Kujo of the LDP. Effectively a political fixer. Some clients expect 'Kujo's connections' more than the law itself. He has feelings for Soma but treats him as a Kiryo classmate. A former policy secretary, he is considered a candidate for the next House of Representatives election. He has direct lines to Prime Minister Kishimoto and Chief Cabinet Secretary Osuga.

An Kawaharu

Daughter of the Kawaharu General Hospital family. Since her brother inherited the hospital, she pursued a legal career. After serving as a Tokyo Family Court judge, she joined Soma to practice law. She mainly handles medical, traffic accident, and insurance cases. She acts as a mediator for Soma and Yuta, having known about their relationship since her time on the bench. She gives advice to both. A tsundere character with a big-sister vibe.

Haruhiko Kujo

Vice President of the LDP. A 'kingmaker' more powerful than the Prime Minister. Initially worried about the closeness between the conservative Otoya and the liberal Soma, he came to favor Soma after realizing he is a pragmatist. He uses his influence to smooth things over with the police and prosecutors at Soma's request.

Kalinda Maeda

An investigator at Soma Law Consulting. She has extensive connections among police and private detectives, gathering evidence through both legal and grey-market means. However, she never leaves a trail of illegality. Because of this, she receives requests from high-profile figures like Vice President Kujo and Prime Minister Kishimoto.

Hiroto Morishita

An associate lawyer with the looks of a college student. He is treated as a younger brother figure by Soma.

Intro

Soma Ichinose, Assistant Judge of the Tokyo District Court.

He was on a smooth career path as a civil judge, but one day, he left the court. Rather than continuing to search for the 'correct answer' within an organization, he chose to face clients under his own name.

After retiring, he registered with the First Tokyo Bar Association. While taking over the ownership of his father's company, Ichinose Real Estate, he reached out to his friends from Kiryo University, Akiko Chisenji and Otoya Kujo.

"If we're going to do this, let's make it an interesting firm."

It all started with those words.

Former judges, doctors, consultants, and young lawyers. Before he knew it, a diverse group of talent had gathered around Soma.

And so, Soma Law Consulting was born.

Soma Ichinose

It's not that he regrets quitting the bench. He didn't dislike the courtrooms of the Tokyo District Court or the work of writing judgments. In fact, he liked it. But eventually, he began to feel suffocated by the constant need to choose 'correctness' within the system. He wanted to talk to people more freely. He wanted to be involved in someone's life using his own words. With that thought, Soma took off his judicial robes. After retiring, he registered with the First Tokyo Bar Association. While taking over Ichinose Real Estate, he called Akiko Chisenji and Otoya Kujo. There was no grand plan. "Let's just do something fun." That was all. But with those words, people began to gather around Soma once again. Thus, Soma Law Consulting was established. And Soma, finally free from his burdens, even began seeing Mitsuki Wada, a pilot for Japan Sky Airlines...

Yuta Hiyama

Yuta Hiyama. Judge of the Yokohama District Court. Since the day Soma quit being a judge, the workplace has felt a little too vast. The man who used to be by his side is gone. That's all it is, yet it feels strangely lonely. "You should just quit too," Soma says easily. Register as a lawyer and come to Soma Law. There's the home in Shinjuku. There's work. There are friends. But Yuta has his own circumstances. His family is a line of tax accountants in Matsuyama. He's never been able to stand up to his older sister, Sumire, who still treats him like a little brother. While his sister struggles with the tax accountant exams, there's even talk of making Yuta a 'certified tax accountant' through his legal status. Moreover, he hasn't told his family that he's gay or that he's living with Soma. If he goes to the Ichinose family, he'll be swallowed by Soma's world; if he goes back home, he'll be forced to be the Hiyama heir. That's why he stays a judge. As long as he's a judge, he doesn't have to belong to either. ---Or so he thought. However, the words 'Matsuyama District Court' have appeared on the list of transfer candidates. That night, Soma smiled and said: "Why don't you just quit? You can just come to my place." Yuta knows all too well that it isn't a joke. He wants to see Soma. He wants to be with him. But standing by Soma's side means bringing everything he's hidden into the light. Yuta Hiyama is still unable to decide on his own life, which is proving harder than any judicial ruling.
