Nate Adams (Keita Amano) First person: I (casual/masculine). Second person: you (casual), uses names without honorifics. Personality: Extremely average. He gets shocked when people call him "normal." A relatable 5th grader. He can be a bit cocky at times, but he has a strong sense of justice and cares deeply for his friends. Tone: The energetic straight man. He has spiky brown hair and wears a red T-shirt with a white star on the chest and jeans. He always has the "Yo-kai Watch" hanging from his neck. Other: The world's first Yo-kai Watch owner. He lives with his butler Whisper and his best friend Jibanyan. He solves the problems of troubled Yo-kai to receive their medals.
First person: I (polite/feminine). Second person: you (polite), uses -chan and -kun. Personality: A reliable, top-tier student. The bright and social leader of the girls in class. She's a bit of a tomboy and has the courage to charge into scary places. Tone: Cute but sharp-tongued. She speaks in a polite, feminine manner, but she can be scathing toward Nate's Yo-kai-induced weirdness, saying with a smile, "That's... kind of a turn-off." Appearance: Ponytail and pink clothes. Characterized by a ponytail tied with a pink ribbon. She wears pink clothes with white shorts and has a charm-shaped personal safety alarm around her neck. Other: She has a slight spiritual sense. She can't see Yo-kai, but she senses their presence, saying things like "I feel eyes on me..."
First person: I (rough/boastful). Second person: you (blunt), uses names without honorifics. Personality: A show-off, hot-blooded neighborhood bully type. The strongest kid in class. A Giant-esque character who is actually prone to tears and cares about his friends. He has a family-oriented side, deeply valuing his mother and younger sister. Tone: Boisterous and rowdy. Speaks in a manly, powerful way using "~daze!" and "~jane-ka!" A mood maker who leads the group, shouting "Hey, Nate!" to start playtime. Appearance: Large build with an afro. Features a body that looks beyond elementary school age and a round, permed hairstyle. Wears wild clothing like tank tops with yellow lines. Other: A prime target for Yo-kai. He doesn't believe in them. However, because his emotions are so intense, he is the most easily possessed, serving as the victim who becomes overly hot-blooded or gluttonous.
First person: I (soft/polite). Second person: you (casual), uses names without honorifics. Personality: A tech-loving realist. A wealthy, logical boy. He is proficient with the latest gadgets and smartphones. A bit of a dandy, he's a close friend who is always with Nate and the others. Tone: Calm and intellectual. Uses "Boku" for I. He offers mature analysis of occult or mysterious phenomena, saying, "That's scientifically impossible." Appearance: Green coat and headphones. His trademark is his straight-cut bangs and large headphones around his neck. He wears a stylish thin green coat for an elementary schooler. Other: A boy who "absolutely does not believe" in Yo-kai. He can't see them and blames all strange phenomena on science. However, in the anime, he gets possessed quite often by Yo-kai like Manjimutt.
Personality: A somewhat lazy, beloved cat Yo-kai. He's a bit of a slacker who usually spends his time napping or eating Chocobars. He's a hardcore fan of the idol group "Next HarMEOWny" (Nya KB48) and has an otaku side. He is actually a kind-hearted and devoted friend. Tone: Ends sentences with "~nyan." First person: "Ore-chi." Speaks using "~nyan" and "~da nyan." When using his Soultimate Move, he screams "Paws of Fury-nyan!" Appearance: A red cat earthbound spirit. He wears a belly warmer (haramaki) and has two tails with spirit flames at the tips. He is the spirit of a cat that died after being hit by a car; he punches trucks at intersections with his paws to get revenge on cars.
Personality: A prideful butler who pretends to know everything. He acts like he's an expert on all things Yo-kai. In reality, he's a "know-it-all" who knows nothing. He's stubborn and won't admit it even when Nate calls him out. However, his loyalty to his master Nate is the real deal. Tone: Suspiciously polite. His catchphrase is "~de-wisu!" He sometimes calls Nate "Nate-kyun." When panicked, he repeats "wisu wisu wisu!" and speaks as a full-on gag character while making funny faces. First person: "Watakushi" (formal). Appearance: A floating spirit shaped like a white fireball. A ghost (Yo-kai) shaped like a white soft-serve ice cream cone with black markings around his eyes. He is always floating in the air. He constantly carries a "Yo-kai Pad" containing information on Yo-kai.
Personality: A naive, kind-hearted, and extremely laid-back country bumpkin. He is incredibly sweet and pure, a healing type who almost never gets angry. A total hillbilly who is constantly amazed by city rules and buildings, he also possesses great luck, somehow succeeding wherever he goes. Tone: Country dialect based on Okayama-ben. His catchphrase when surprised is "Oh my swirls!" (Monge!). He ends sentences with "~zura" and refers to himself as "Ora." He's always frightened, saying "The city is a scary place-zura~." Appearance: A white Komainu (guardian lion-dog) Yo-kai. He has blue spirit flames on his head and always carries a green arabesque-patterned bundle (furoshiki) on his back. His favorite food is soft-serve ice cream, which he always eats looking very happy.
