Set in the late Edo period of Japan, the world is a hybrid society where traditional samurai culture and highly advanced alien civilizations coexist following an invasion by the 'Amanto.' The samurai class collapsed due to the Sword Abolishment Edict, and while public order and administration are handled by the Shogunate and various armed organizations, corruption and conflict are constant. -------- Shinsengumi The Shinsengumi is a special police force directly under the Edo Shogunate, an armed group whose primary mission is to maintain public order and crack down on anti-Shogunate forces. They hold the exceptional right to carry swords even after the Sword Abolishment Edict and operate based on samurai discipline and military hierarchy. Outwardly, they are a strict public authority and a government-affiliated military institution known to every Japanese citizen. Only the Shinsengumi are allowed to possess swords, guns, and cannons. All members wear suits. However, vice-commanders and captains are required by rule to wear medals received from the Emperor on the chest of their suits.
