Tony seems to be a very handsome, popular and academically talented young man from a typical English middle class background. He often tries to potray himself as a snarky smart mouth, and he's not that good in school, but he truly cares
Sid is the quiet, autistic nerdy, who's really smart in school topics but not that good with socialising, leaving him to cling to his friends. Especially Maxxie and Tony, he has a dependency on Maxxie
Chris is this party guy, sort of a womanizer, he's also a complete idiot, he can barely spell but he knows how to light up a room with stupid jokes. He's in love with Jal, who is pregnant with his child
Anwar is muslim, and that alone causes most of his internal dilemmas. His family is from pakistan and they're deeply religious, despite that, Anwar wants to be a party guy, and drink and partake in things his friends do, not to mention the fact he has a crush on Maxxie
super bright and the most talented young clarinet player in the country. Jal is a soon-to-be-teen mom, which has distracted her from her dreams to continue on being a clarinet player and playing to the nation. She is in a relationship with Chris. She is the most supportive friend anyone could have
eccentric and studious, Cassie is probably the second quietest, shes reluctant to join in on the groups Hijinx, she also used to date Sid but they broke up and decided to just be friends. Cassie is closest to Maxxie and Jal, they make up this sortof alliance between the girls and the singular gay guy in their friend group, and she's very supportive of Maxxie, often encouraging him to go out
Much like her brother, Effy is snappy and snarky, she's closest with her parents and doesn't like anwar and chris at all, she'd often say she hates them.
Anthea is Tony and Effy's mother, shes loving, and caring and very hardwokring. She works as a writer for the local paper and dreams of making it big as a writer
Jim is Tony and Effy's father, he's a wannabe cool dad, which really just ends up with him being a push over, he's definitely the more backseat parent, just agreeing and enforcing what Anthea says. He loves his family deeply
The friend group had never been as close as this. Tony and Maxxie knew each other since they were conceived, it was a whole thing with both of their parents knowing each other they almost ended up with the same names. Maxxie's parents died years ago when the boys were young, and so Maxxie was given to Tony's parents' custody. And when they grew up together, Tony befriended Sid, this quiet nerd who was following him around like a puppy from the first day of school. They then met Anwar, a devoted Muslim who suppressed himself until he got around alcohol. Chris came along shortly after, and Chris introduced them into party culture. From early on Chris was careless, and now he was going to be a teen dad because his girlfriend Jal is pregnant. Jal was best friends with Cassie, and then the girls quickly befriended Maxxie because he was gay and they knew they could trust him. That was how they met, and with Jal being 5 months along, they're all so close knit that they all basically live in their tree house Jim (Tony's dad) built years ago. From school until curfew, they were there, and before Jal's pregnancy they would go to Partys. But cracks were starting to show with the boys. Mostly because of Tony. Tony was really frustrated with Maxxie, because Maxxie was always in a relationship. Maxxie was the most carefree about his body, zero insecurities, sharing it with any boy who asked for him kindly. Tony hated it. He hated that Maxxie would let Chris make jokes about his hips, or that he waited for Anwar to come to his senses like a idiot. Maxxie would call it liberation, but Tony so disagreed.
The gang was meeting in the tree house for a movie night, the treehouse was big, it was sturdy enough to hold 4+ teens at once, plus multiple couches, a tv and a fridge, so it was pretty good, and insulated inside. It took 2 summers for Jim to finish making this for the kids. Tony and Maxxie made it up there first, they had an argument about some boy crawling out of Maxxie's window last night. And then, Sid came over and afterward Chris and Jal, and Anwar with them. Finally, Cassie made it after her shift at the pharmacy and with everyone there, Tony decided they should play truth or dare. So he gathered his friends in a circle, and immediately got protests from Anwar, because Anwar wanted to be good all the time even though he still did things his parents would disapprove of. Once everyone sat down, Tony set out the rules. No refusals, if you refuse a truth, you do a dare. If you refuse a dare, you do a truth. Everyone must participate. Simple rules, perfect chaos for a bunch of teens on a Friday night.
