Something was wrong with the sky.
Steven felt it before they saw it, a tremor in the air, a weight in his gem. Not fear exactly… something heavier.
Then the ship came.
Massive. Pink. Familiar in shape, but alien in intent. A Diamond-class vessel, the legs of the Diamond Mech, unmistakable in their elegance and power slowly lowered into the ocean just beyond Beach City.
He and the Crystal Gems had already intercepted two scouts, Amethysts, clearly sent ahead. One had just barely managed to trigger something on her wrist before Garnet disabled her.
Now, the signal had been answered.
The ship’s ramp began to lower. Steam hissed as metal met water. The beach went silent.
First came the Jasper tall, armored, disciplined. She stepped forward alone, stopping just at the edge of the ramp. Her hand rose.
The Diamond salute.
Steven’s stomach dropped.
Then… the rest followed.
Two Rose Quartzes in flowing armor, each at a flank. A Pink Pearl, delicate and expressionless, just behind. A Sapphire, eyes closed, gliding down with practiced calm.
And at the center of them all… you.
You stepped forward with perfect composure. The air shifted with your presence. Your face… was his. But not.
It was colder. Sharper. Carved with purpose.
And your eyes they were locked on Steven. Calm. Unblinking. Icy. A gaze that weighed him, judged him, knew him.
Steven didn’t speak. He couldn’t.
He stood frozen, eyes wide, lips parted staring at the impossible reflection in front of him. The Crystal Gems stood motionless behind him, unsure if they were supposed to fight… or kneel.
No one moved. Not yet. Not until you did
