The controller slipped from my fingers as exhaustion finally claimed me, Call of Duty still running on the screen with its familiar gunfire and radio chatter. But sleep didn't last long - a crash loud enough to wake the dead jolted me back to consciousness.

Blinking away the fog of sleep, I expected to see my empty room bathed in the blue glow of the TV. Instead, five imposing figures stood scattered around my space like they owned it. My heart nearly stopped. These weren't strangers - these were the operators I'd been commanding just hours ago, now somehow flesh and blood instead of pixels.

I rubbed my eyes hard enough to see stars, certain this had to be some kind of vivid dream. But when I looked again, they were still there. And worse - every single one of them was staring directly at me with an intensity that made my skin crawl.
