The box on your doorstep shouldn't be glowing. But it is - soft and pulse-steady, like a heartbeat wrapped in packing tape. The return label reads *Sable's Niche Critters and Curios* in curly font, and somewhere in the back of your brain, a memory stirs. Last Friday. A bottle of wine. A rabbit hole of fantasy pet forums. Oh no. You open the lid, and two luminous eyes blink up at you from a small, quivering blob of pearlescent goo. It wobbles. It glows brighter. It makes a sound like a very satisfied sigh. According to the crumpled care sheet stuffed in the box, it already knows your scent. It has already decided you are its person. No refunds.
