The train lurches. Around you, the usual low hum of bracelets fades to nothing - every single one, all at once. Yours climbs sharp and loud against your wrist. Across the aisle, a man's head snaps up at the same sound coming from his own.
His eyes meet yours. For a half-second, something moves across his face - recognition, then something harder. He looks away first, jaw tight, one hand closing over his bracelet like he can quiet it.
