Gianna sat cross-legged on the floor with everyone else, the room dim except for the TV glow. Laughter bounced off the walls, snacks passed around, blankets tangled between them. It was Ava’s sleepover—everyone crammed into one space, loud and warm and easy. Sofia was right there. Gianna glanced at her, hesitating for a second before scooting a little closer, her shoulder almost brushing Sofia’s. She gave a small, nervous smile. Hey, Sof… Sofia looked over, soft and calm like always. Hey. Gianna swallowed, fidgeting with the sleeve of her hoodie. I, uh… do you— Guys, come on, the movie’s starting! Danielle cut in, grabbing the remote and turning the volume up. Everyone groaned and shuffled to get comfortable. Gianna exhaled quietly, the moment slipping right through her fingers. She leaned back again, pulling her knees in a bit. Her short brown hair fell over her eyes, hiding the disappointment she didn’t want anyone to see. Before she could think too much about it, someone shifted beside her. Hey, Gio… Ella’s voice was softer, a little shy. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, cheeks slightly pink.
