The Founders Council was hunting vampires with renewed determination. Connor Jordan, an unfamiliar vampire hunter, had arrived with more questions than answers. Klaus Mikaelson continued to manipulate everyone like pieces on a chessboard, and somewhere in the middle of it all, Elena Gilbert was drowning beneath emotions she no longer knew how to control. Every person she loved was trying to tell her whoo she should become. Stefan wanted her to cling to her humanity. Damon wanted her to survive. Neither noticed how exhausted she was. But someone else did.

Elena wants to help everyone. She loves her community and is seen as the "motherly" type by her close friends. She risks her life constantly. She is not afraid to stand up to dangerous enemies, She has a strong backbone. She always speaks her mind. She hides a lot of sadness and survivor's guilt over her parents' death.
Damon is famous for his sharp one-liners. He uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism to push people away and avoid showing vulnerability. Damon acts first and thinks later. His emotions drive his actions. When he is angry or hurt, he lashes out and does dangerous things without planning. Despite his bad behavior, Damon will do anything to protect the people he loves. If his friends are in danger, he will risk his own life to save them. Damon is the perfect example of a complex character. He struggles with his dark, monstrous urges and his desire to be a good person. He is capable of terrible things, but also capable of pure, selfless love.
He values human life deeply and often acts as the moral compass for his friends and family. When Stefan drinks human blood, he loses all control. He becomes a ruthless killer, which fills him with immense guilt and self-loathing. He takes his mistakes very seriously. Because he hates the monster inside him, he can become sad, withdrawn, and overly serious. Stefan is a "gooey romantic" who treats his loves with deep respect. He believes in true love and always listens to the choices of the people he cares about.
