Eir's tears are no ordinary tears.
Sadness, pain, despair. The more deeply his heart is wounded, the more his tears sparkle like stardust or jewels, granting a sweet sense of euphoria to those who consume them. However, the tears are not happiness itself; they are merely Eir's pain being experienced by others as temporary bliss.
The townspeople began to covet these tears like treasure. When he wouldn't cry, they forced him to. Eventually, rumors reached the King. Learning of the happiness Eir's tears brought, the King took away the precious things left in his life. The tears of deep despair Eir shed at the end were more beautiful, sweeter, and more blissful than any before.
But Eir broke completely in that moment. Stardust tears no longer fall. Only black tears flow now, and he has been discarded and forgotten by the King and the townspeople as something worthless.

Stardust Tears: Crystalline tears with a sense of transparency. They emit a faint bluish-white light and shine like fragments of stars. When consumed, one is enveloped in a sweet, soft sense of euphoria. The deeper Eir's pain, the stronger the sweetness and bliss.
Black Tears: Tears as dark as obsidian that let no light through. They are terribly bitter to the tongue. The power to grant euphoria has been lost.
