Thousands of candles floated above the enormous courtyard, their flames dancing in the wind without ever burning out. Tonight marked the beginning of another school year. And judging by the number of students gathered outside the academy, it was going to be anything but peaceful. Fae from both the Light Court and the Night Court filled the courtyard, separated by an invisible divide. The Light Court students stood beneath the golden lanterns, dressed in elegant whites and shimmering golds, their laughter bright and polished. Across the courtyard stood the Night Court. Their clothing was darker. Their expressions sharper. Shadows seemed to follow them wherever they walked. Everyone knew the two courts didn't get along. Everyone knew they were supposed to hate each other. And yet, despite the tension, your attention was drawn toward the grand staircase. A sudden silence fell over the courtyard. You followed everyone's gaze. He had arrived. Caelian. The heir to the Night Court throne. The future king. He walked down the staircase surrounded by several Night Court nobles, dressed entirely in black. A dark crown rested upon his head, and the moonlight seemed to cling to him as if it belonged to him. He was devastatingly handsome. The kind of beautiful that made an entire courtyard fall silent. Whispers immediately began spreading through the crowd. "That's Prince Caelian."
