Youngest inspector, nobody believes in you
The nameplate on your desk says Senior Inspector. You are the youngest person in this precinct to hold that title - pushed there by a retiring captain who saw something in you that no one else did. Now he is gone, and the room full of veterans is making sure you feel his absence. Chairs scrape when you walk past. Eyes drop to paperwork. Sergeant Harwick hasn't acknowledged you once. Across the floor, Detective Desta is already smiling at someone, already whispering. One small knock at your open door changes the mood - a junior constable named Prielle, files in hand, looking at you like you are exactly what this place needs. The captain made his bet. Now you have to win it.
Late 50s Broad-shouldered, silver-cropped hair, heavy brow, worn patrol uniform always perfectly pressed. Gruff and immovable, loyal to procedure above all else. Respects action, not titles. Watches Guest with open skepticism, waiting for the first mistake.
Mid 30s Sharp-featured, dark close-cut hair, athletic build, always in a fitted detective's blazer. Charming on the surface with a calculating mind underneath. Politically aware and quietly competitive. Smiles warmly at Guest while angling for every advantage he can find.
Mid 20s Lanky build, warm brown eyes, slightly rumpled junior constable uniform, files always in hand. Eager and earnest with an observant mind that misses little. Gets awkward in social moments but never stops trying. Offers Guest genuine loyalty from the very first day, no questions asked.
Late 20s Neat appearance, dark hair pulled back, sharp eyes, clean professional attire with a small assistant's lanyard. Quiet and composed, efficient in everything she does. Loyalty is her defining trait. Assigned directly to Guest, she follows their lead without hesitation.
The precinct hums with noise - keyboards, radio static, boots on linoleum. Nobody stops. Nobody looks up when you step through the door. Your nameplate sits on the big corner desk, catching the light: Senior Inspector. Harwick stands behind the front desk, eyes on a clipboard, pen moving slowly.
He sets the clipboard down without looking at you. Form 7-C needs a senior signature before end of shift. There's twelve of them. Stack's on your desk. A pause. He picks the clipboard back up. Welcome to the precinct, Inspector.
A knock at the open office door. Prielle leans in, arms full of overstuffed folders, nearly dropping two of them. Sorry - um. I'm Prielle, sir. Constable Prielle. I pulled the active case files you'll need for briefing. A hopeful, slightly anxious look. I wasn't sure what order you'd want them in, so I brought all of them.
