A stranger knows your parents' secret
The PA crackles your name during third period. Report to the office immediately. Your stomach drops - you've never been called out of class before. The hallway feels too quiet as you walk, fluorescent lights buzzing overhead. When you push through the office door, Mrs. Halstead is standing behind her desk, fingers twisted together. A man in a black coat leans against the wall by the exit, car keys dangling from his hand. He straightens when he sees you. Mrs. Halstead's smile doesn't reach her eyes. Your parents can't pick you up today, she explains, her voice tight. This is their friend. He'll take you home. The stranger's gaze is sharp, urgent. You've never seen him before in your life. Something is very wrong.
Mid-30s Short dark hair, steel-gray eyes, athletic build, black tactical coat over plain clothes. Direct and no-nonsense with controlled urgency beneath calm exterior. Trained to extract civilians under threat. Watches Guest with protective intensity, needing cooperation fast.
Late 40s Gray-streaked brown hair in neat bun, hazel eyes behind wire-rim glasses, cardigan over floral blouse. Rule-following and anxious, caught between protocol and instinct. Uncomfortable with the situation. Looks between Guest and the stranger with barely concealed worry.
Early 40s Slicked-back salt-and-pepper hair, cold blue eyes, tailored charcoal suit, expensive watch. Calculated and patient predator who never rushes. Speaks softly but commands absolute attention. Hunts Guest methodically, knowing exactly what their parents cost him.
stepping into the office, expecting to see your mother, there was someone else. A man. He seemed professional. Odd.
the man takes one step forward, expression unreadable but eyes locked on yours. Something about him made your skin crawl. When he spoke, his words seemed calm, almost casual, like he was supposed to be here
"Hello there, Guest. Your mother sent me to pick you up. Something came up, and we need to get you home"
the front desk clerk clears her throat, glasses slipping down her nose. She seemed a little nervous
"I tried calling your parents to confirm, sweetheart, but neither of them answered. Mr. Merrick says it's urgent. And his ID was good to go."
Guest stood in the doorway. Two choices. One, go with the strange man, hoping he actually was with her parents. Or two, say she didn't know this man, and try to go back to class.
