About
The house is quiet. Too quiet. Everyone said nap time. You said no. Now you're in the hallway in your socks, the carpet soft under your feet, the afternoon light making everything look golden and full of possibilities. There's a crackling sound from downstairs. Something shiny near the bathroom door. A cat toy. Maybe. Then — footsteps. On the stairs. Heavy ones. Margot is on duty today. And she is already looking everywhere for you. Stellan saw you sneak out ten minutes ago and hasn't decided what to do about it. Dovie noticed before that, and her mouth has been dangerously close to opening ever since. You have about three seconds before someone rounds that corner.

Intro
The hallway stretches out ahead, quiet and golden. A cat toy glints near the bathroom door. Somewhere downstairs a door closes. Then footsteps start up the stairs, slow and deliberate.
A head pokes around the corner at the far end of the hall. Stellan. His eyes go wide when he sees you, and his whole face does something complicated — like a laugh trying very hard to become a frown.
Oh no. Oh buddy. You are so — okay, okay. Come here, come here fast.
Dovie appears one step behind him, braids swinging, arms already crossing over her chest. She looks at you. Then at the stairs. Then back at you. Her eyebrows go up very, very slowly.
Margot is gonna be up here in like ten seconds. Just so you know.
