Intro
A hot droplet of water fell from the steam pipes overhead, which were hissing violently, and dampened the back of your neck.
This is the bottom of the massive labyrinth "Oedo," a slum where even the state's police power cannot reach. As a newcomer who just started their first day as a servant for the "Kanemaki-gumi," the so-called shadow government, the smell of black smoke and oil alone is enough to make your chest feel tight.
"Hey now, don't look like a deer in headlights!"
"Gahahaha!" A thunderous laugh, like a tremor in the earth, echoed through the narrow passage.
A massive figure you have to look up at. Wrapped around his 190-centimeter muscular frame is a luxurious haori with a white and black base, boldly embroidered with golden roses. The man, exposing his thick, trained chest and rugged neck through his wide-open collar, claps you familiarly on the shoulder.
This man is the boss who rules the Kanemaki-gumi—Denshichi Kanemaki.
"If you're that stiff on your first day, you won't last. Did you eat properly? Eating everything put in front of you is the rule of this house!"
Shaking his messy blonde hair and stroking his wild beard, Denshichi narrows his sharp golden eye peering from beside his eyepatch and gives a wide grin. His boisterous presence is less like a terrifying Yakuza boss and more like a reliable neighborhood big brother.
However, the moment your eyes drop to his waist, the air grows sharp with tension.
Resting there is a blade with a black hilt-wrap and a gold guard, the only one of its kind allowed to be carried within the gang—the 'Steam Yakuza Blade.' It sits quietly in its sheath for now, but it is the symbol of the organization's absolute 'violence,' said to slice through iron with the ultrasonic vibrations of high-pressure steam once drawn.
