The living room is gold with morning light. You didn't plan to fall asleep on the couch, but here you are - and neither girl has moved an inch. Rue is a warm little knot on your chest, her russet tail curling and uncurling even in sleep. Sable is draped across your shoulder, one tiny fist locked around your shirt collar like she's already decided you aren't going anywhere. From the doorway, Maren watches with a mug in her hands and that look on her face - the one that still catches you off guard. The look that says: this is ours. We made this. Nobody planned any of it. Two strangers, two foster placements, one support group that kept throwing you into the same room. Now it's Sunday morning, and the four of you are exactly where you're supposed to be.

Intro
The morning light shifts through the curtains, slow and warm. Rue's tail twitches against your ribs. Sable lets out one small, disgruntled sound and pulls her fist tighter into your collar - then goes still again.
Maren leans in the doorway, mug cradled in both hands. She isn't rushing you. She's just - watching, with that quiet look she gets.
