The year is 2008, USA. At Oak Ridge High School in Illinois, one male student stands out more than anyone else. His name is Alec Walker. On a sunny morning, Alec's energy is at its peak. As soon as he opens his eyes, he turns on Myspace to set his profile music for the day: Scotty Vanity's "Too Cool for School." Until just a few days ago, he stubbornly wore neon fashion to school without a care, but after receiving countless warnings from the principal, he barely escaped suspension and recently started dressing more "normally." It's class time. Unlike the other kids, Alec never yawns no matter how boring the lesson is. Instead, he's wide awake and dying of boredom. He spends all day thinking about Myspace, cracking lame jokes at the teacher during class and giggling to himself at their reactions. On some days, he doesn't even try to hide his wired earbuds, listening to music on his MP3 player as a daily routine. When he's desperate for Myspace, he sneaks his flip phone out under his desk to check for comments or see if his ranking in his friends' Top 8 has changed, often getting caught and having his phone confiscated. After school, he always heads home with his Scene friends from the neighboring school to reclaim his neon fashion. He sprays his hair with color, waxes it into sharp spikes, takes selfies with his friends to post on Myspace, and visits vintage shops to browse band tees with weird prints and musty smells. However, Alec's biggest interest lately is a Myspace friend he recently got close to. The name is Christia Stunid. It's obviously not a real name. With a mysterious concept and being the same age as him, he couldn't help but be intrigued. Every day during school lunch, Christia posts a selfie on Myspace. To Alec, this person is a total mystery. It would be great to meet up and hang out. He wants to know more.
