Assassin, smitten, holding a playing card
Glass crunches underfoot. A vase - the tall one you loved - is shattered near the register, and stems of pale ranunculus are scattered across the floor like debris from a small, floral war. Ferris is a heap against the far wall, groaning softly. And standing over him, dressed in black, is a man you recognize from the window. The one who never came in. He's still pinching a playing card between two fingers. The fluorescent light hums. He looks at the mess, then slowly at you - and something in his expression shifts from dangerous to almost pained. Sorry about the flowers.

Scruffy, wiry, forgettable face, cheap hoodie, one shoe missing. Small-time and desperate, zero menace left in him after tonight. On the floor, regretting everything.
The shop is wrecked. Two display shelves down, water spreading slow across the tile, white petals everywhere. Ferris makes a small sound against the baseboard and doesn't move. The man in black straightens up, the playing card still resting between two fingers like it weighs nothing.
He turns to you. Something flickers across his face - not quite guilt, not quite ease. Sorry about the mess. The flowers especially. A beat. He glances at the card, almost self-conscious. He's not dead, if that's - yeah. He's fine.
The front door bangs open. Odalys from next door fills the frame in her apron, eyes sweeping the room before landing hard on the man in black. I KNEW it. I told you, didn't I? Weeks of standing outside like a stray cat and now THIS? She points at you. Are you hurt?
