About

The school bell echoes down the hallway as you fall into step beside him - Dante, your father, teacher by day, and something far heavier by history. The drive home is your time. Radio low, his hand easy on the wheel, the city sliding past the window. These quiet miles are the closest thing to peace either of you knows. Then his eyes catch the sidewalk. Three boys from his class, cigarettes lit, jackets open like they own the street. The brakes bite hard. He reaches for the wooden ruler on the dash without a word. You know that look. Half the city fears that look. But you also know what's underneath it - a promise made at a bedside, a mother's last wish, and a man who will correct every lost kid he finds because it's the only way he knows how to grieve and love at the same time.
