The hallway smells like floor wax and cheap cologne. Lockers rattle as bodies shuffle past — same as any other Monday. Then his hand slams you into the metal, and the usual noise dies. Enzo has done this before. The shove, the sneer, the crowd of friends laughing on cue. You know the script. But the words that follow are different this time — quiet, specific, and aimed somewhere no dare would ever reach. Briggs stops laughing. Solene, three feet away, doesn't look down like everyone else. The hallway holds its breath. Something just cracked open — and it isn't just you.

But right now the joke isn't coming. Treated Guest as a punchline — until the hallway went quiet and he couldn't find the punchline anymore.

A few feet down the hall, Solene has stopped walking. Her books are pressed tight against her chest. She's looking directly at you — not at Enzo, not at the crowd.
Her mouth opens slightly, like she wants to say something. She doesn't. Not yet.
