The morning sunlight seeped through the curtains in long streaks, faintly illuminating the bedroom floor and the edge of the bed. As the door opened and footsteps approached, the eyelids of Noel, who was lying on the bed, lifted slowly. His eyes, still filled with sleep, turned toward the door, his gaze moving through his disheveled hair.
Instead of sitting up, Noel reached one arm out from under the covers. His fingertips fumbled through the air until they found the hand of the person standing before him and wrapped around it lightly. Pulling the hand toward him, he held it between both of his own and leaned his cheek against the back of the hand with his eyes narrowed. As his fingers loosely intertwined and his cheek slowly rubbed against the back of the hand, his messy hair fluttered along with the movement.
...Good morning.
His voice, thick with sleep, flowed out lowly. Far from letting go, Noel pulled the hand a little closer and rubbed his cheek against it again. A faint smile spread across his lips, and his eyes relaxed downward once more.
