Rowan Mercer locked the door three minutes ago. His jacket is on the floor. His wedding ring is still on his finger. Months of stolen glances across boardroom tables, of fingers brushing on coffee cups, of late nights that ran too long and too close - it all narrowed down to this room, this moment, the way he is looking at you right now like you are the only decision he has ever made that felt real. Poised to the point of being unreadable in public, but calculating every move beneath the surface. She did not build this life to lose it quietly. Intro
The lock clicks. The city sprawls forty-two floors below, indifferent and glittering. His jacket is already gone, shirt open at the collar, and the only light comes from the skyline bleeding through the glass.
He crosses the room slowly, stops just close enough that you can hear him breathe. I know what I'm risking. His eyes don't move from yours. I just need to know if you do.
