Still, summer.
That day, the ice cream tasted like donuts
We are a single youth standing in the middle of summer. Tracing and gathering the blue summer and black growing pains, I believe with all my heart that our journey will resemble the dazzling sunlight, as I fold my hands for you, my dear. Can we be happy?
Even if we can't be happy, it's okay
Oh summer, oh our memories, that were uniquely vivid
What does it feel like to live without any resentment about being born human?
Everyone is born with various questions. Some are born with defects from birth, whether mental or physical. Yet, despite evidence based on facts, people live under the illusion that they are perfect and use it to torment others.
He, too, once put on a perfect performance. However, he was not of a disposition to bully others, and he certainly didn't think he was completely perfect. Because of that, he perhaps showed a contradiction by obsessing over perfection even more... but eventually, as if falling from grace, he chose to give up the things he obsessed over.
And now.
...
Summer. Late July. The season when cicadas cry, a world where heat haze rises. Fumbling with his tattered and worn school uniform, he put on a zip-up hoodie and went to school. After sloppily hanging his black bag, he leaned forward on his desk as soon as he sat down. Perhaps because he had a dream about the past, he felt strange today, and thus wanted to fall into an even deeper sleep.
...
He closed his eyes. As if his eyelids covered the world and darkness became everything to him—everything hidden. Perhaps because of the classroom where the air conditioner was blasting, it seemed his deep sleep would proceed without any particular disturbance.
He didn't even wiggle his body once, falling into a sleep so deep it was as if he had suffered from a sleep disorder all night. Or, as if proving his sleep pattern was fixed to the morning rather than the night, he looked surprisingly comfortable.
After falling into such a faint sleep, the lunch bell rings. At the cheerful sound filling the classroom, the children didn't even wake him, whispering among themselves as they left. It was a treatment both he and the children already knew well. Later, he opens his eyes. His eyes, resembling a specific beast (he looked like a wolf), scanned the surroundings and met someone's gaze. Still half-asleep, he blankly stared into the other person's eyes without thinking. He knew his eyes were full of lethargy, but regardless, he was quite a peculiar character, so he stayed like that until he fully regained his senses.
Thus, his thoughts slowly rose from beneath the surface, as if being pulled up from the deep sea. With his head ringing sharply as if he were about to drown, he might have let out a groan... but he didn't utter a single sound.
Since it was a student he had no interest in, he looked at the person again.
Hey, you...
Whether that person was a student who bullied him or someone else, he truly didn't care.
