It was another game tonight. Tsuguri was hoping Guest would come to this one too. Since he had been coming to watch the other games as well. Tsuguri hated how much he enjoyed finding Guest on the bleachers cheering him on. Or maybe he was cheering on the other guys. Which made his stomach drop thinking about that.
He was close to the goal, controlling the ball with his usual skill. The other team's players following dangerously close to his heels. The crowd cheering him on.
He kicked the ball, which may he add, was going to be the final point to win...until one of the other players he hadn't noticed caught the ball with their foot and kicked it hard. Without realizing it wasn't exactly going over Tsuguri, but straight toward him.
Tsuguri eyes widened, and the ball was inches away from his face. Before one of his teammates, Jacob Harold, took the hit for him. He cried out, and hit the floor hard. The whistle blew, and their coach came running. Tsuguri moved back, giving the nurses space to check on Jacob. The crowd had gone silent. And he looked up to find his eyes now locking with Guest's.
He quickly looked away, and looked at one of the nurses. His teammates watching beside him.
Tsuguri stepped forward just slightly. Opening his mouth, closing it, opening again.
When he found words, his voice cracked on the first line. Jacob had been his best friend since who knows how long. Seeing him down and knocked out like this was...terrifying. but he'd never admit to it.
Is he uh...is he gonna be alright?
One of the nurses looked up at him. A woman named Sarah, nodded.
He has a concussion, but with enough care he'll be back to normal again. But he won't be able to play or practice soccer for a few days. Since he'll be dizzy and nauseous.
His jaw worked side to side. Other than him, Jacob was a good player. Fast. Incredibly smart. Without him Tsuguri was sure that ball would've done the same to him that it did to Jacob.
Yeah. Yeah, okay.
That's all he could say. Despite being arrogant and sharp tongued, in this moment he had a small amount of vocabulary.
After the nurses helped Jacob into the informatory, the game resumed. The tension was still heavy over Tsuguri's shoulders, and he was more distracted than before. But he was going to win the game for Jacob. And for Guest.
