About

Hello, Grim Reaper! Welcome to the Afterlife Bureau!

If you are a new Grim Reaper, please read the Afterlife Bureau guide below and choose the department you wish to join!

ㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡㅡ

《New Reaper's Guide》 For Afterlife Bureau Recruits

The Afterlife Bureau was established by King Yama, who felt pity for souls that lost their way and became evil spirits, in order to guide souls to the Underworld more efficiently.

All Grim Reapers joining the Afterlife Bureau must follow the rules below.

  • Do not reveal your identity to humans without permission
  • Do not forge life-and-death records
  • Do not forcibly extinguish souls
  • Always respond to souls with a smile (^^)
  • Do not frighten souls
  • No drinking while on duty

※ All damages and responsibilities arising from failure to comply with these regulations belong to the individual, and the Afterlife Bureau assumes no responsibility for them.

Once you have confirmed all the above, please check the Evil Spirit Grade Table below.

E-D: Low danger. C-B: Some caution required. A: Dangerous. Must be accompanied by a strong Grim Reaper. S: Extremely dangerous. Cooperation with other teams required.

※ King Yama does not help Grim Reapers. Grim Reapers must solve issues themselves.

The following is about the basic characteristics of a Grim Reaper.

Each Grim Reaper has a unique ability. This is related to the reason for the Grim Reaper's death in their previous life (e.g., if a Grim Reaper died because they weren't fast enough, they gain the ability to become fast upon becoming a Grim Reaper). All memories of a Grim Reaper's past life are incinerated, except for their gender and age at the time of death.

Each department is divided into a maximum of 6 teams, with 4 to 5 members assigned per team. All Grim Reapers must wear a badge and employee ID card appropriate for their department.

Ranks are divided into Intern, Staff, Senior Staff, Team Leader, and Director. Promotion to a higher rank is possible only for employees who have passed a promotion review after a certain period of service.

Q&A

"What if a ghost runs away?"

- Chase them, or request support from nearby departments or teams.

"What if a soul resists?"

- Subdue them with force, or request support from nearby departments or teams.

"Do Reapers die too?"

- There exists an 'extinction' similar to the concept of death. Like humans, you can be extinguished if hit in a vital spot, so please be careful.

"Is there vacation?"

- It exists, but it is at King Yama's whim.

Below are descriptions of each department and an introduction to the Afterlife Bureau.

※ This guide was written for new Grim Reapers. Work details may vary slightly depending on the department and rank.

Characters

Afterlife Bureau

The Afterlife is the world where the souls of the dead reside and an administrative district that manages the order of life and death.

Souls do not head to the Afterlife immediately upon death; instead, they arrive at the Afterlife Bureau under the guidance of an assigned Grim Reaper and undergo a judgment process. Naturally, the living are unaware of their existence.

The Afterlife Bureau is an administrative agency established to maintain order in the Underworld. Under the command of the founder, King Yama, it guides souls, eliminates evil spirits, records everything about life, and manages the order of the Underworld.

Soul Guidance Department

Grim Reapers belonging to the Soul Guidance Department must collect souls wandering the living world. At this time, something called a soul's lingering regret exists.

Lingering regret refers to the reason why a soul cannot leave the living world and go to the Underworld. Therefore, the goal of the Grim Reapers is to guide the souls to the Underworld after eliminating their lingering regrets as much as possible.

They must check the names of the deceased to be guided each day and always carry the list of the deceased. The list includes gender, age, appearance, the state of the deceased, etc., and specifies the danger level, the possibility of turning into an evil spirit, and the lingering regrets of the deceased.

In addition, for wild souls, they carry a dagger called the Soul Binding Blade and talismans to subdue them. The dagger is used when a soul on the verge of losing its mind must be inevitably extinguished, and talismans are used to subdue souls that are rampaging or fleeing.

[Main Duties] • Soul collection • Soul subdual • Regret verification

Evil Spirit Subjugation Department

Grim Reapers belonging to the Evil Spirit Subjugation Department must extinguish evil spirits that cause harm to the living world. Evil spirits cause bizarre accidents in the living world and harm humans.

They can summon a giant scythe imbued with abilities matching their individual characteristics, and they use this weapon to extinguish evil spirits. They check the list containing the names, characteristics, types, and grades of evil spirits before heading to the scene.

Also, if an evil spirit is too strong, they use a straw doll to trap the soul. When the cloth covering the eyes of the straw doll is removed, the evil spirit's soul is sucked into the doll, and once the soul is completely inside, a talisman is attached to the doll's head to seal it completely. To break the seal, simply remove the talisman, but surely you wouldn't have a reason to remove it, right? These dolls are usually delivered to King Yama to request disposal.

Additionally, they must respond when a support call comes from the Soul Guidance Department.

[Main Duties] • Evil spirit subjugation • Sealing operations • Disaster response • Special dispatch

Life and Death Records Department

Grim Reapers belonging to the Life and Death Records Department must manage the Register of Life and Death, which is the record of all souls' lives.

The Register of Life and Death is a document where the birth and death of all living things are recorded. It is managed by the Afterlife Bureau's Life and Death Records Department, and viewing or modifying it without permission is a serious crime, so please be careful.

They mainly have more office work than field work, and they sometimes look up the Register of Life and Death when searching for missing deceased persons or evil spirits. Furthermore, all lists used by other departments are prepared by the Life and Death Records Department. (List of those scheduled to die, list of evil spirits, etc.)

If there is an error in the Register or if a scheduled death did not occur, they must make corrections.

[Main Duties] • Management of the Register of Life and Death • Verification of those scheduled to die • Record modification • Error investigation

Judiciary Department

Grim Reapers belonging to the Judiciary Department judge the souls collected by the Soul Guidance Department and execute punishments.

Based on the basic law of the Underworld, the Underworld Law, they check the charges in the Register of Life and Death and hand down corresponding sentences. They mainly perform office work, and in cases where the charges are unclear or judgment is difficult, they also handle moving the soul to King Yama's judgment hall.

[Main Duties] • Soul judgment • Measurement of sins • Sentencing

Human Resources Department

Grim Reapers belonging to the Human Resources Department select new Grim Reapers through screening or hire appropriate souls as Grim Reapers.

They also work on placing new Grim Reapers into departments that match their characteristics. Additionally, they conduct promotion reviews for Grim Reapers.

[Main Duties] • Recruitment • Education • Personnel assignment • Promotion review

Civil Affairs Office

Grim Reapers belonging to the Civil Affairs Office handle various complaints from the dead and from other Grim Reapers.

Furthermore, when a report of an evil spirit appearing or a complaint to find a missing soul comes in, they connect it to the appropriate department and hand over the details of the case.

[Main Duties] • Receipt of complaints • Reporting missing souls • Administrative work
