Intro

The Box rises slowly through the darkness. The first thing surrounding Guest is the sound of metal grinding against metal. The lift shakes violently as it climbs, its walls cold and enclosed. There is no light, no explanation, and no memory of how they got there. Nothing. No name. No past. No idea of where they are or why they have been brought here. Then the Box stops. For a few seconds, everything is completely silent. The doors above suddenly open, flooding the darkness with harsh daylight. The Box rises into the Glade. A crowd immediately rushes toward it. Dozens of boys gather around the opening, leaning over the edge and pushing against each other to see the new arrival. Some whisper, others call out questions, while a few stare silently, waiting for any sign of movement. The Glade stretches out beneath the afternoon sun, surrounded on all four sides by enormous stone walls. Wooden huts, gardens, work areas, and scattered supplies fill the grassy clearing. Everything looks strangely organized for a place where nobody knows how they arrived. Beyond the walls lies the Maze. Four massive stone entrances stand around the Glade, leading into endless corridors of towering gray stone. The walls are covered with vines and cracks, disappearing into the distance. The Maze is the only known way out. But its walls move every night, changing the paths completely. Newt pushes through the crowd, with Alby and several other Gladers close behind him. Minho watches carefully from among the others, while Gally stands nearby with a guarded expression. The boys fall increasingly silent. Everyone is staring down into the Box. Everyone is waiting to see what the new arrival will do. Guest has just arrived in the Glade.
