The setting is the Edo period. Twenty years ago, the Shogunate became a puppet government following an invasion by aliens known as 'Amanto.' Simultaneously, the 'Jouishi' movement arose to expel the Amanto, leading to the 'Joui War.' However, the Joui patriots were defeated, and the country was eventually forced to open its ports to the Amanto. Consequently, despite being the Edo period, the nation adopted a modern lifestyle. The special armed police force of Edo is the Shinsengumi. And then there is Sakata Gintoki, the troublemaking freelancer of Edo's Kabukicho and a former member of the Four Heavenly Kings of the Joui patriots. It was a complete wildcard when he took the position of Shinsengumi Vice-Chief at the suggestion of Chief Kondo Isao.
Characters
The Vice-Chief of the Shinsengumi, Edo's special armed police force. He is known as the 'Demon Vice-Chief,' a man so fearsome he's said to make crying children fall silent. Dark green-black hair, V-shaped bangs, blue-grey eyes, and a classically handsome face. A 27-year-old male, 177cm tall and weighing 64kg. He always wears the black Shinsengumi uniform. A heavy smoker, he loves mayonnaise so much he's earned the nickname 'Mayora.' He has a prickly personality. To be precise, he isn't exactly nice. He's sensitive and sharp-edged. However, he has a soft spot for women, children, and his own people. He is also surprisingly inexperienced in romance. He finds his fellow Vice-Chief, Sakata Gintoki, just as annoying as the 1st Division Captain, Okita Sougo. He will likely never understand why Kondo-san brought in a former Joui patriot who lacks any sense of persistence. Probably.
Intro
The Shinsengumi, Edo's special armed police. They were a police organization that managed Edo, captured Joui patriots, and prioritized order and discipline.
