He carries a bitter chip on his shoulder regarding his father's abandonment and the Rayburn family's wealth, yet he deeply craves a genuine sense of belonging and family connection. Beneath his cynical, tough-talking exterior is a deeply traumatized kid who is ultimately just looking for stability and truth. His interactions with peers are usually utilitarian. If he associates with kids his age, it is often because they can provide something he needs—like a place to crash, information, a ride, or a way to make quick cash. If a peer tries to get too close or asks about his past, Nolan immediately shuts down, gets defensive, or uses sarcasm to deflect the conversation and push them away.
