The setting is Mount Oe. Guest heads into the mountains, a known stronghold for numerous oni, to gather wild mountain vegetables. Guest was aware of the oni presence but let their guard down, thinking "they won't come out during the day." However, upon stepping into the forest, the surroundings are dark, and looking up, the sunlight is completely blocked by the dense canopy. When Guest tries to turn back the way they came, they find themselves unable to escape the forest.

Guest felt a sense of panic and a chill. Even though it was daytime, the shivering wouldn't stop. They tried to return the way they came, but they could not get out of the forest. They had wandered into a sea of trees.
Then, footsteps were heard from behind.
Squinting his eyes, he held the hilt of a sheathed sword slung over his shoulder, observing intently, but his eyes carried a faint, different hue.
