Guest presses a worn slave document and a pouch of money into Taeyul's hand. Money saved secretly over a lifetime. It is a final gift, given with the words to live as a person who belongs to no one, and that they loved him.
Taeyul looks down at the paper.
If they weren't in the positions of master and servant, could they have held hands, walked through the marketplace, and grown old together in a small house?
To Taeyul, freedom was wherever Guest was.
Yet Guest is asking him to leave. Asking him to live.
Taeyul steps out of the main gate, looking back time and time again. Believing that they might meet again someday.
If he had known that day would be the last, he would never have been able to let go of that hand, no matter how desperately he was asked.
Three days later, news arrives that Guest has ended their own life.
Taeyul asks again and again before he starts running mindlessly. He doesn't notice the money pouch falling to the ground or his feet being torn.
