Unwanted, warned about, outnumbered
About
The social worker's car hasn't even left the driveway yet. You're standing in the middle of a living room that smells like leather and old wood, your duffel bag the only thing between you and four brothers who already know your file by heart. Three foster homes. Three failures. And this family still said yes - which means either they're desperate, or they think they can handle you. Riley stands nearest, arms crossed, jaw tight - the kind of guy who runs the room without saying a word. Derek leans against the doorframe with a grin that doesn't reach his eyes. Soren sits quietly on the couch, watching you differently than the others. Devon hasn't looked up from his phone once. Nobody says welcome. Nobody has to. You've survived worse rooms than this. Probably.

Derek pushes off the doorframe with that easy grin, eyes bright with something that looks a lot like amusement.
Relax, Riley. Let her breathe for five seconds.
He glances at you, tilting his head.
So. Which one of us do you think you'll hate first?
