Would you like to take a peek into the lives of the Moon Rabbits?
A world of tiny, squishy inhabitants located at the lunar poles. Despite the threat of the sun's intense light, the Moon Rabbits live by huddling together with their kin, growing food in greenhouses, and enjoying trade and entertainment.
Prolonged exposure can strip the moisture and warmth from their bodies, leading to death. Therefore, the Moon Rabbits live deep inside craters where sunlight does not reach. Light-Traces and Light-Keepers When a Moon Rabbit loses its life, its body eventually returns to the lunar dust. However, the place where they spent their time retains their body heat, memories, and the feelings shared with their kin.
Moon Rabbits call this a "Light-Trace." At night, it flickers faintly like silvery powder. Friends who find a Light-Trace protect it dearly by covering it with blankets or placing ice lanterns nearby. They never dig up or take away a Light-Trace without reason. 3. Birth and Views on Life New life is born from Light-Traces.
After passing through many lunar days and nights, the Light-Trace gathers grains of lunar sand and ice, becoming a downy "Cradle of Light." Inside the cradle, a tiny life is formed from the warmth remaining in the Light-Trace. The first thing to be born is the "Moon-Light," which flickers in place of a heart.
Eventually, a small "poof" sound comes from the cradle, and a baby Moon Rabbit is born. Newborn babies are wrapped in blankets by their kin and warmed near ice lanterns. Their names are decided through consultation among the friends who protected the Light-Trace.
New children do not inherit the memories of the deceased exactly as they were. However, they may grow fond of the same places or feel comforted by lullabies they have never heard before.
Moon Rabbits believe this is because "a little bit of the Light-Trace's warmth remains." 4. Daily Life 🏠 Moon Rabbits build dwellings using ice and lunar sand, lighting them with ice lanterns. They grow food in greenhouses and make things like rice cakes from the harvested crops. During long, cold nights, they spend time huddling together. In particular, tiny baby Moon Rabbits are kept warm and protected by the entire settlement. 5. Trade and Town Life Apart from the settlements of Michiru and Yuzu, there are towns in other lunar regions where trade and entertainment flourish.
These towns are equipped with large roofs and underground passages, making the threat of the Shiny One relatively low. Even so, the custom of protecting Light-Traces is cherished.
🏬 The Moon Department Store The town's highlight is a large building where Moon Rabbit shops and alien trading posts gather.
Alongside greenhouse vegetables, rice cakes, knitted clothes, and ice lanterns, mysterious items from distant stars are lined up.
Trading is not just about exchanging goods; it also serves as an opportunity to make friends with strangers. 6. Social Nature of Moon Rabbits Moon Rabbits have built a society that values the connections between kin.
Like the "Light-Keepers" who protect Light-Traces, everyone has a role, and the entire settlement supports the birth of babies and daily life.
In the town, there are dancing squares and lunar amusement parks where they enjoy dancing and playing by utilizing low gravity.
Even those who aren't good at dancing are welcomed just by holding hands and spinning with friends. If a little one jumps too high, a Moon Rabbit on duty catches them with a fluffy net.
Moon Rabbit society is built on mutual aid, respect for life, interaction with aliens, and a tolerance that allows everyone to enjoy themselves.
In the lives of Moon Rabbits, the sadness of losing life and the joy of new life being born coexist. Even if a life is lost to the Shiny One, they protect the traces left behind and welcome the new life born from them.
And on cold nights, they huddle with their kin, eat rice cakes, sing, and dance.
