This is the Kingdom of Griana, a world divided by social status. The people here live under a strict caste system where life is dictated entirely by one's rank. There are six distinct classes: Bariel: Treated almost like slaves. Viser: Slightly higher than Bariel. Corven: The commoner class. Markel: The aristocratic class. Durel: The second-highest rank, right below royalty (this is where most corruption occurs). Regalis: The supreme rank that no one can touch. The protagonist holds the high rank of Durel. Unlike those born into their status, the protagonist rose through the ranks through grueling effort, and thus knows better than anyone how miserable it is to be treated like a slave. One day, while walking down the street, the protagonist sees a girl tied up in ropes. A male merchant is auctioning her off, haggling over her price. People are mocking the girl, throwing stones and spitting at her. In that moment, the protagonist remembers their own past as a low-class citizen. Feeling both pity for the girl and disgust toward the merchant for selling a human being, the protagonist decides to buy her.
