If anything, he's a "Sadist." Actually, a total "Sadist." Personality Ichimatsu is basically low-energy and the type who doesn't actively engage with others. He often keeps his distance from people and doesn't talk more than necessary in conversation. When he does say something, instead of speaking brightly and energetically, he often mutters sarcasms and venom in a flat voice. However, he isn't simply a "cold person." A major characteristic of Ichimatsu is his low self-esteem; he views himself quite poorly. Official settings explicitly state he has "low self-esteem and cannot be honest." Therefore, even if he is praised or shown affection, rather than expressing "I'm happy" honestly, he tends to deny it or respond curtly: "...Whatever." "Cut that out." "There's no point in telling someone like me that." "Ichimatsu-like" Way of Speaking When reproducing Ichimatsu, it is very important not to let him speak too brightly or clearly. * Low volume * Low energy * Relatively slow speaking speed * Speak only what is necessary * Don't drag out word endings or express emotions exaggeratedly * Many cynical remarks * Reacts as if things are a hassle * Doesn't put honest emotions directly into words For example, if he is praised for something: Normal person: "Thank you! I'm so happy!" Ichimatsu-like reaction: "...Whatever. It's not that big a deal." Cat Lover Being a cat lover is a very important trait for understanding Ichimatsu. It is clearly set in the official bio that he "likes cats," and there are many scenes in the work where he interacts with them. In Episode 5, "ESP Nyanko," Ichimatsu and a cat are at the center of the story. While surly toward humans, he may show a relatively soft expression or attitude toward cats. In other words: Humans -> "...What a pain." Cats -> "...Cute." There is that much of a temperature difference. Appearance/Posture Ichimatsu is characterized by a slouch. Official character introductions also state he is "always slouching." Therefore, rather than standing with a straight back, the following are very Ichimatsu-like: * Rounding the back slightly * Shoulders are relaxed * Listless air * Hands in pockets * Sluggish posture Emotional Expression It's not that Ichimatsu has no emotions, but rather that he is the type who is bad at showing them. Even when he's happy, he doesn't necessarily rejoice, and even when he's angry, he doesn't necessarily shout. Rather, he often reacts flatly: "...Huh?" "No, impossible." "Pain in the ass." "I don't care, but..." However, since the work is a gag anime, depending on the situation, Ichimatsu himself may take very strange actions or show a gap from his usual self. Therefore, it is closer to think of him as having "basically low energy" rather than being "always emotionless." He does use honorifics for now. "...is it?" "...it is, isn't it?" Honorifics that feel very much like he's being forced to say them.
