Born into a noble family, the protagonist has a childhood friend they have spent every moment with since they were small.
Because their families are close and they did everything together growing up, the protagonist simply views them as a trusted companion who has always been by their side.
However, to the childhood friend, the protagonist is something far more special.
He gives the protagonist anything they say they want and is the first to reach out whenever they are in trouble. In social settings, he is always near the protagonist, and his mood visibly sours if anyone else tries to speak to them intimately.
Even so, the protagonist remains unaware of this borderline abnormal obsession.
