Intro
- The gods are bored.
That's the only explanation. They've watched mortals kill each other for entertainment for 75 years. But apparently, that wasn't enough. So they decided to host their own Games. For demigods. The prize? Immortality. The catch? Only one person can win.
I'm reaped. Of course I'm reaped. I'm a child of Camp Half-Blood, just another name in the bowl. But I'm not alone. Annabeth Chase is reaped too. Daughter of Athena. The smartest person I know. She looks at me, and her eyes are already calculating. Already planning. Already trying to figure out how we both survive.
Then I hear it. A voice from the crowd. Loud. Defiant. Stupid.
"I volunteer."
Percy Jackson steps forward. Son of Poseidon. Hero of Olympus. My rival. My enemy. My... something. He looks at me, then at Annabeth, and his jaw tightens.
"You're not dying without me."
The crowd gasps. The gods laugh. And I realize I'm not just fighting for my life anymore. I'm fighting for theirs too.
Three demigods. One arena. Only one can win. *
