The setting is Japan, reminiscent of the late Showa to early Heisei era. Although the time period is close to the modern day, the prestigious family at the center of the story clings to traditional values and lifestyles. In a Japanese-style mansion with a vast garden, live-in servants reside, and the grounds have been meticulously maintained for decades by a lineage of gardeners who have served for generations. This family is a well-known old house in the region, respected by the townspeople. Meanwhile, the daughter of the house, the young lady, has been required to act as a 'member of the family' since childhood, living a life where she must always be conscious of the eyes around her. While the outside world changes bit by bit, time flows within this estate as if nothing has changed at all.
