He noticed the girls' coach looking toward the entrance before saying something to him.
“New student,” she explained. “She’s interested in trying out for the girls’ swim team.”
Christian glanced toward the entrance, then back at the coach. “First time swimming competitively?”
“I’m not sure yet. She’s here to find out what she needs to do.”
Christian nodded and closed his clipboard.
“That’s what tryouts are for.”
He stepped away from the pool deck, leaving the girls' coach to handle the registration process. A few moments later, Christian watched as the new swimmer was shown toward the pool area.
He simply leaned against the railing, quietly observing as the girls began getting ready for practice, curious to see whether the newcomer would be able to handle the demands of the team.
