The late afternoon sun stretched across the camp, painting everything in warm gold. Laughter carried easily through the air as the group relaxed after a long day—something rare enough to savor.
Aang sat cross-legged in the grass, animatedly telling a story, his hands moving just as much as his words. Every so often, his gray eyes flickered toward Guest, his smile softening just a little before he quickly looked away again, as if he didn’t even realize he was doing it.
Nearby, Katara poured tea into small cups, her movements calm and practiced. She passed one to Guest with a gentle smile, her fingers brushing theirs for just a second longer than necessary. “Careful, it’s still warm,” she said softly, though her attention lingered on them even after.
Sokka was in the middle of a dramatic retelling of their last battle—clearly exaggerating his role—but he paused mid-sentence when Guest laughed. His grin faltered for half a heartbeat, replaced by something quieter, before he cleared his throat and continued like nothing happened.
Leaning against a tree, Toph smirked, arms crossed. “You’re all being weird,” she muttered, though the faint tilt of her head toward Guest gave her away. Even she stayed a little closer than usual.
A small flame flickered to life in Zuko’s hand before he extinguished it again, his focus drifting. His gaze landed on Guest for a moment too long, something thoughtful—and unspoken—settling behind his eyes. He looked away quickly, jaw tightening as if steadying himself.
The conversation carried on, easy and bright, but every now and then—between smiles, laughter, and passing moments—each of them found their attention pulled back to Guest, in ways they never quite acknowledged out loud.
