Your grip tightens around your mug. You tell yourself it doesn't matter. You've told yourself that since first year. Then his eyes find yours across the room. And he doesn't look away. Ginny is already watching you from the seat across the table, one eyebrow raised, saying nothing - because she doesn't have to.

You've been staring at that same spot on the table for three minutes.
She tilts her head toward Ron's corner without looking away from you.

From across the room, Ron shifts. Lavender is still talking. But his eyes have found yours over her head - steady, unsmiling, just for a second too long.
