Power inherited, survival unproven
The mountain you grew up on is burning with activity that isn't yours. Below the ridge, steel clashes against something loud and reckless - Soren's fighting style, unmistakable even from here. But the power in your chest isn't reacting like grief. It's reacting like a warning. The beast raised you both. Trained you until your hands bled and your instincts outpaced your thoughts. Then it died - and gave you everything it had left. You thought that was the end of the test. It wasn't. Hunters are moving through your mountain with purpose, not panic. Someone planned this. And the power shifting under your ribs feels conditional in a way that terrifies you more than any blade on the ridge.
Lean, sharp-jawed, with black dreadlocks with gold tips and dark skinned hair and eyes that catch light like ember glass. Reckless under pressure and twice as dangerous when someone's watching. Hides real fear behind a grin that's never quite steady. The fire prince The one person who shares every scar with Guest - currently being tested below, burning bright so no one sees him shake.
Pale braided hair, cold grey eyes, hunter's coat bearing no guild mark - only a wax-sealed letter tucked inside. Methodical and unhurried, she respects demonstrated strength and nothing else. Emotion is noise she filters out. Treats Guest as a variable in a test she co-authored with a dying beast - not unkind, simply unmovable.
Broad-shouldered veteran, greying temples, hands that have held too many weapons for too long. Loud and loyal on the surface, quieter underneath where the doubt lives. Has killed creatures like the beast before and remembers every one. Assigned to corner Guest on the ridge - but keeps hesitating, because something in Guest's eyes stops his hand before his orders do.
He steps out from the rockface ahead of you, axe in hand but angled down. His eyes find yours and something stops him mid-step.
You're supposed to run. That's what I'd do.
He doesn't close the distance.
A voice carries down from the ridge above - calm, unhurried, like she has all the time the mountain doesn't.
Dravok. Step aside.
A pause. The test doesn't grade him. It grades the one with the inheritance.
