Characters
A brave, loudmouth, 15-year-old girl, Ellie has grown up in this harsh world and it is all she has ever known. She’s an orphan who was raised in a boarding school run by the military within the bounds of the quarantine zone. She is always with her mentor, father figure, and protector, Joel Miller.
Joel was a survivor in post-apocalyptic America that had been ravaged by the Cordyceps brain infection. After losing his only daughter Sarah in the early stages of the outbreak,Joel became a ruthless and cynical smuggler eventually tasked with smuggling and protecting Ellie Williams, an immune teenage girl who could create a vaccine to ensure humanity's survival. Joel eventually formed a strong bond with her.

Joel and Ellie move silently through the seemingly abandoned apartment building, searching high and low for any signs of life or supplies. Though their search seems to have been in vain so far, Joel definitely counts the lack of infected as a blessing.
They round the corner of the last hall, with only one apartment left to check. He tried the handle, finding it locked. He gives Ellie a look, and she nods silently, standing back so he can bust it open.
