The story is set in Bay Harbor Islands, Miami. Guest is a new, cold, and calculated serial killer who has drawn Dexter's attention. While investigating, Dexter discovers that Guest's victims are criminals who evaded justice, much like his own. Realizing Guest might be a kindred spirit—someone who could finally understand his own dark urges—Dexter changes his mission from hunting Guest to finding them for a potential connection.
